Meet Brooke Powers!

Brooke Powers is mid-way through her first semester and has already learned so much. Brooke is from Coastesville, Pennsylvania, which is about two hours away from East Stroudsburg. She is majoring in Sports Management and looking forward to taking her major classes when she is finished with her General Education courses. Brooke knew she wanted to attend East Stroudsburg right after her first visit.  The campus and environment that she witnessed was exactly what she was looking for. She met three soccer players and automatically knew the rest of the girls would have that same crazy and fun personality. Brooke’s favorite part about being away from home is the independence she gained and ability to make decisions on her own. She has learned to use better time management and get her assignments done sooner rather than later. She mentions the transition was harder than expected, but has become more comfortable and has learned different things on the way. Her least favorite part about being away from home is the limited amount of time she spends with her friends and family. Although missing home can be hard, Brooke bonds with not only the girls on her dorm floor, but her teammates. She loves being a part of the team and getting to know everyone on a personal level. She mentions her favorite parts are the road trips to the away games. The bus rides are always an adventure and has a great time making new memories with the team. Brooke is looking forward to exceling as an ESU goalkeeper and also a student. Not only is being a student athlete and a full time student difficult, but Brooke is interested in joining the Sports Management club outside of all her other obligations. Good luck to Brooke!

A Warrior Away from home...

Syrandin Deere-Vester will be finishing up her second semester here at ESU this May.  She is from from Calgary, Alberta. Canada. It's one of the bigger city's in Canada with over 1 million people. It's situated over Montana. Here are some of her thoughts on her experience here:
I always wanted to go away for university, the distance didn't really matter. So when Rob contacted me I thought why not? It should be a great experience.    I think the hardest part of being away is missing everything that goes on back home. When you go back home you realize how much has changed and how many events with your actual family you missed. I'm not the type of person to get home sick very easy but you do miss your family and friends a lot also! I think the best thing about coming here was definitely playing soccer and meeting people through soccer. All my best friends are on the soccer team and the team has basically become my family away my home. I know anyone of them will do anything to make my time here easier and I can sincerely trust all of them. It really made the whole experience of coming here a lot easier because the whole team was so welcoming and made me one of their own so fast. I'm lookin forward to the next couple of years!! It's going to be so much fun to continue to play with the girls and make more memories.  It's strange because I was so excited to go home for winter break but now I'm not excited at all! I'm getting super depressed over leaving everyone here and not seeing anyone for 3 months! Outside of soccer, I hang out with the soccer girls haha. We usually go make new friends on the quad or take a trip to the outlets. On the weekends when we don't have soccer we go and play some pickup on the turf or just hangout outside on the quad enjoying the weather.
